If you are passionate about enterprise data warehousing, and banking, this role with our client offers an opportunity to shape critical data platforms in a highly regulated environment!
Job description
We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer with strong AWS experience for our client's data platform migration project. You will lead the migration of a legacy on-premise data warehouse (Sybase IQ) to a modern AWS-based architecture, designing and building both real-time and batch data pipelines. The role combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering: you will shape the target architecture, guide the team, and deliver the solution end to end. This is not a purely advisory position.
This is a long-term contract position in a highly regulated banking environment, working fully onsite.
Responsibilities
Lead the migration of a legacy data warehouse (Sybase IQ) to an AWS-based data platform.
Design and implement the target architecture built on Amazon S3 and Amazon Athena.
Build real-time data processing using AWS Lambda in Python.
Develop and run batch processing workloads with AWS Glue.
Plan and execute the data migration, including schema conversion, data validation, and source-to-target reconciliation.
Provide technical leadership to the data engineering team: set engineering standards, review code, and mentor engineers.
Work closely with architects and client stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust data solutions.
Ensure data quality, security, and compliance in a regulated financial-services environment.
Produce technical documentation: solution designs, data flows, and operating guidelines.
